About
DeepSeek is the Chinese AI lab whose open-weights models shook the industry by matching frontier performance at a fraction of the cost. The web chat at chat.deepseek.com is free, and its API famously undercuts Western labs on price. Pros: free to use, strong reasoning for the price of nothing, open weights for developers. Cons: data is hosted in China, which raises privacy questions for some users, and the service has buckled under load at peak hype moments. Pricing changes often — check the vendor's site for the current price.
